Bonjour…I am a French Model

Why is it that commercials are speaking so loudly to me? Whatever the reason I am hearing the voice of God!

I was taking my son to school the other morning and we were discussing his Science Fair presentation.  As we talked we covered what areas he needed to emphasize and how to effectively cover them.  His project deals with some of the social media myths that are surfacing regarding certain products.  His direct myth that he tested was “Can Coca-cola dissolve a nail in four days?”  I told him he needed to start his presentation like this…”Bonjour…I am a French Model and coke can dissolve a nail in four days.”  He was too embarrassed to try that. So I said jokingly, “Fine, I will use it in my message Sunday!”  He and the others in the van laughed.

The moment the laughter stopped I heard the voice of God (my Father) say, “So preach that”.  You might be familiar with the commercial where a discussion is going on about what one can believe on the internet.  The woman in the commercial tells this guy that she is about to meet her date who is a French model, who she also just met on the internet.  Her date arrives and in very non-French like accent greets them both with “Bonjour” as to prove he is a French model (even though his looks would say otherwise). The commercial ends as the “couple” walk off down the sidewalk.  She obviously did not know the truth or just was willing to believe whatever was told to her.

Many people live this way.  The believe everything that is placed before them.  As long as it is out there for them to read, hear, chew on and swallow they will accept it as truth.  There are so many things in our society that people are blindly accepting as truth.  They accept them and live by what they perceive as truth.  Does not matter what others might think or what is clearly the truth.  It is truth to them because they read it somewhere, or someone on TV talked about it, or even because it is on Facebook.

There are many people who also believe that truth is subjective.  That what might be truth for you does not have to be a truth for them.  So they live by a philosophy of you believe what you want to believe and I will believe what I want to believe.  Seems harmless?  On the contrary, it is perhaps one of the most destructive philosophies man can follow. Why is it so destructive?  Because it is a philosophy that reveals there is no such thing as absolute truth. If absolute truth does not exist then my actions and behaviors cannot be judged by anyone.  In other words, “I can do whatever I want to do!”  It is true that one can do whatever they want to do. However, the lie that is in the midst of that truth is–a person will not be judged for their actions.

Who or what judges our actions? Most will say, “do not judge me, only God can judge me!” To those who say that, I agree.  In the book of Ecclesiastes (11:9) King Solomon reveals that one can do whatever they want to but they ought to know one thing…God will judge what they do.  It is true one can follow their heart but the heart is deceitful and will lie right to one’s face.  If we are to have God judge us in our favor than all of our actions must be based upon truth.  Not a truth that is subjective but rather by one source of absolute truth.

Truth is important and necessary for a productive life.  So seek the truth.  Notice the following verses and what is revealed about truth–

“Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, [then] are ye my disciples indeed; and ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”  John 8:31-32

  • Seeking truth invites right relationships into your life.
First with Christ and then relationship with others. Truth allows for relationships to begin and grow.
  • Seeking truth invites right revelation into your life.
“…you shall know the truth” in Christ you have the ability to know what is truth for in Him all truth is revealed. He is Truth.  John 14:6
  • Seeking truth invites a right freedom into your life.Actions have the ability to make a slave out of you.  One may think they are free but most of the time that one is a slave to actions he has done.  Seeking truth and attaining truth sets you free.

  1. God has touched me and taught me in some of the strangest places and at the strangest times. I remember sitting in a huge convention center at an SU! convention with over 3,000 women in attendance. I had tears running down my face as the speaker was talking about selling stamps! I know there were people wondering what the heck was wrong with me. But God was speaking through that speaker in ways she didn’t intend and couldn’t imagine. I’m sure the people that came up with that commercial had no intentions of pointing anyone toward the Truth, but God knew. God can use anything for His purposes. Even stupid commercials.
