I have always wanted to be successful! In other words I like to win. I am constantly thinking how can I be a success, after all who likes to fail. The answer to that is a resounding, “no one”. What I have discovered is that most people, and by most I mean just about everybody, are not concerned with the success of others but they are only concerned about their own. For years I have asked other men to mentor me, to invest into me, and to help me be all that God wants me to be and without fail no one has seemed to care. This confuses me greatly, the men that I have asked are all men who teach and preach the importance of having mentors, and coaches but they themselves are not interested in being a mentor. I see many who are interested in being a “life-coach” but that is because life coaches get paid. Their interest in my success is only to the extent of what I am willing to pay them to ask me questions, in my opinion it is a joke. Oh and by the way I do not think it is very funny. So….enough with my rant here is my revelation from God.
I was praying about being successful and asking God what I needed to do be a success when He spoke so clearly to me. He revealed to me that my greatest success will be when I help others to be a success. BOOM there it was an answer to a question that I have had since I was 17 years old. I often wondered how one unlocked the potential that was inside of him and God answered that question. It is unlocked in me when I am seeking to unlock the potential in someone else. Not to the extent that I help others only to help myself because that will not cut it. It will only happen when my success is not the focus but the success of others is my focus.
Is this not what Christ modeled? He came to serve. He came to invest His life for the lives of others. It is from Him that we develop our model. To give ourselves to others. Someone has to be willing to say enough of the “It’s all about me syndrome”. Someone has to be willing to say, “I will sacrifice my dreams and ambitions to help you see what God has planned for you. I will pour all that I am into you because God has a special plans for you.” I am not sure who is willing to go to such extents but the one who truly is willing will become the one who is truly a success. I have learned and am learning that my success will only happen if I seek to make you a success. So here is your question–“Who are you willing to help make a success?” The following are some thoughts on helping others to be a success–
- Be concerned with their eternal destiny. “What shall it profit a man if he should gain the whole world but lose his own soul?” No one will ever achieve success if the success is only achieved in this life time. The first concern you should have for anyone should be about their eternal destiny. That is do they have a relationship with Christ. Being concerned about their eternal destiny is not merely preaching to them about getting saved it is about inviting them to follow Christ and through that invitation you reveal and share to them the way to eternal life.
- Be concerned with their desires and pursuits. Why? Because they matter. Nothing is more disheartening to a person then when someone does not care. We are all to ready to share our desires and pursuits and all to quick to close our ears and heart toward others. When someone shares their heart you ought to listen. Listen and ask God how you can help them to achieve it.
- Be concerned with them as a person. It is far to easy to overlook the simple fact that behind every dream and pursuit is a real person. Someone who wants to be accepted. Someone who wants to be loved. Never forget that. Success is not about achieving a certain level but rather success is about a person becoming who they were created to be. Take time to make sure they see you as one who understands them.
Your success is important!
This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night,
that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein:
for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success. Joshua 1:8
