Your Relationship
A.W. Tozer once wrote:
“To us who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope that is set before us in the gospel, how unutterably sweet is the knowledge that our Heavenly Father knows us completely. … no enemy can make an accusation stick … since He knew us utterly before we knew Him and called us to Himself in the full knowledge of everything that was against us.”
That is the heart of Romans 8:31–39. God knows us fully, loves us completely, and secures us eternally. In these verses, Paul shows us what our relationship with God produces in our everyday walk.
If God Is for Us…
Paul frames his teaching through a series of questions. Each one pulls us deeper into the reality of our relationship with God:
- If God is for us, who can be against us?
We have failed Him, but He is still for us. We have been ignorant, but He is still for us. We have not been as fruitful as we could be, but He is still for us. - If God is for us, will He not give graciously?
He did not spare His own Son—what would He withhold from His children now? - If God is for us, who can bring a charge against us?
God Himself has justified us. Accusations may come, but they cannot stick. - If God is for us, what can separate us?
Nothing in this world, no hardship or trial, can tear us away from His love. As Derek Kidner observed, sometimes suffering isn’t punishment—it’s the battle scar of loyalty in a world at war with God. - If God is for us, we are more than conquerors.
Paul uses the word hypernikao—“super conquerors.” Through Christ, victory is not only possible, it’s promised. - If God is for us, we can live persuaded.
Paul declares, “I am convinced…” It wasn’t just theory—it was personal. You and I must make that same persuasion our own.

Living It Out
Romans 8 reminds us that our relationship with God isn’t fragile—it’s unshakable. He is for you, not against you. He justifies you, not condemns you. He holds you, not abandons you.
That truth should give us confidence, identity, victory, and motivation.
So today, let me ask you: Are you living persuaded that God is for you?
